Grade 2 Apple Week 2026

A week of New core memories

This week, our Second-Grade students made their week all about apples, performing a play about Johnny Appleseed, incorporating apples into classroom learning and activities, and even taking a field trip to Market Street, where they discovered all kinds of fun facts about the production and selling of apples.

On Tuesday, students kicked off Apple Week with an outstanding performance of the annual Johnny Appleseed play. A beloved tradition at Christ Academy, the Johnny Appleseed play retells the history of John “Johnny Appleseed” Chapman, who is not only known for planting apple nurseries, but also for his great love of sharing the gospel. Each student helped bring this story to life with speaking parts and historical costumes. We loved getting to see students build confidence in their ability to effectively present to an audience.

The following day, Mrs. Fitchie and Mrs. Hand led a series of apple-themed art and science projects in their classrooms alongside some of our students’ parents. After learning all about the life cycle of the apple plant and seasons of the apple tree, students got to participate in various science experiments and were also able to take home various art projects. These projects were a fun way to support the learning of students in this unit.

To wrap up Apple Week, the class went on a field trip to Market Street on Thursday, where they were told all about the ins and outs of the business and even learned some new facts about apples. After touring the floral department, getting a quick lesson on cake decorating, and stopping to look and learn about at all the apples that are sold, they wrapped up their trip by seeing where all the apples are stored.

We loved getting to see all that Second-Grade was up to this week! Take a look at the full photo gallery below for a glimpse into all things Apple Week!
