Class Spotlight: Grade 2 Celebrates Pumpkin Week

Learning through fun

Last week, Grade 2 wrapped up an exciting Pumpkin Week with a special Pumpkin Day on Friday! The week began with a creative Language Arts project where students read a book, chose a favorite character, and designed a pumpkin to represent that character. They then presented their character pumpkin reports, sharing what they learned about their story’s character traits and themes. These creative pumpkins are now displayed in the front office hallway for everyone to enjoy!

Throughout the week, students explored all things pumpkins - testing whether pumpkins sink or float, measuring their class pumpkin’s height and circumference, counting seeds, and even sampling tasty pumpkin treats. After tasting pumpkin pie, bread, and roasted seeds, students graphed their favorites and compared results. They also learned about the pumpkin life cycle and discovered fun pumpkin facts along the way.

To close out the week, students enjoyed a day full of fall fun. They rotated classes throughout the day, enjoying different activities in each classroom. In Mrs. Duke’s room, they created pumpkin-themed crafts and wrote about what they would do at a pumpkin patch, and in Mrs. Babwolff’s room, they built pumpkin candy towers during a hands-on STEAM challenge. The day ended with a meaningful lesson from the Pumpkin Patch Parable, reminding students that just as a pumpkin shines from within, Jesus can shine His light in each of us.
